On May 18, Curt Smith held a grand opening for his third store in Alabama. The 8,000 sq. ft. facility in Ashford includes a full-service deli, just like his other locations in Columbia and Headland. Local residents are excited about this new addition to the area, which also offers a paint carousel color center and Husqvarna power equipment section. As a pleased customer recently commented, “where else can you go to buy a hot dog and a hammer?”
Curt, his son Bryan and grandson John have seen great success with their unique business model. The delis bring added foot traffic and their other two stores include gas stations, which generate extra revenue. The Smiths have been with True Value for over 30 years and are grateful for the company’s support as they launched and expanded their two branch locations. They were also delighted to apply their returned equity money to this new store opening.
Weekend festivities kicked off with three grand prize giveaways, a 25% off bucket sale, free hot dogs, a BOGO paint sale and additional prize drawings.
The owners advise fellow retailers to involve local chamber members and business leaders in your project early and continually throughout the process. The Smiths utilized planning meetings and other local events to their promotional advantage and also recommend Facebook for generating advance buzz.
Congratulations to the Smith family and the Ashford True Value team!
