Company donates more than $10,000 of school supplies to benefit Chicago’s youth

CHICAGO, Sep. 6, 2018 –For three weeks in August, True Value associates worked together to give back to their local Chicago community. The result was more than $10,000 of school supplies donated to the True Value Boys & Girls Club, which helps children and teenagers develop skills to grow, succeed and make lasting connections.

Hundreds of True Value associates participated in the company’s “Back to School Supply Drive,” which aims to ready children in the Chicagoland area for the upcoming school year. More than 700 notebooks were donated, along with over 1,100 boxes of crayons, 850 pairs of headphones and hundreds of water bottles, coloring books, art supplies and pencil sharpeners.

“A major focus at True Value is impacting our local communities,” said Susan Radde, Director of the True Value Foundation. “We put a lot of thought and effort into initiatives like this and I am proud of the results. But most importantly, I am happy that kids throughout the Chicagoland area will be prepared for the upcoming school year. We want to do everything we can for the leaders of tomorrow.”

The True Value Boys & Girls Club is located in the Little Village neighborhood on Chicago’s west side, serving an average of 188 children and teenagers per day. The club offers a wide array of programs in five core areas and supports Community Links High School with the club’s College Bound Program, which sees an annual 100 percent high school graduation rate and a college placement rate of 85 percent.
