Our company believes a diverse and inclusive work environment is about more than understanding or accepting attributes such as race, gender and religious beliefs. It means leveraging the variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives that make each individual unique for the purpose of moving our organization to be world class.
We know that our country’s demographic profile is changing at an ever-quickening pace. By the year 2050, 50 percent of the total U.S. population will be comprised of different racial, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
True Value views these changes as an opportunity to create an inclusive and diverse work environment that respects all individuals and their unique contributions. In fact, we know we’re our strongest when all associates are respected and can contribute and feel included. Because of this, our company has established and partnered with several organizations to embrace and promote education and awareness, as well as development.

Inclusion and Diversity Council
Our Inclusion and Diversity Council is a cross-functional group of associates focused on developing a strategy and goals to support an inclusive and diverse environment in regards to our workforce, workplace, community and marketplace. The Council is committed to strengthening True Value’s ability to retain and recruit an inclusive and diverse workforce in order to better serve its retailers and consumers.
Young Professionals Group
With a mission of enabling the co-op’s success by cultivating mutual respect across generations, the Young Professionals Group creates events and programming that address the particular needs of developing professionals. However, our initiatives do not end with our internal organizations. We are proud partners with The Posse Foundation and Chicago Scholars and our own True Value Foundation.

Empowering Women’s Network
Empowering Women’s Network, Inc. (EWN) is a company dedicated to the advancement of professional women. As an industry leader EWN provides opportunities for women to succeed and companies to develop their female leaders.
The Posse Foundation
The Posse Foundation identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes. The Foundation extends to these students the opportunity to pursue personal and academic excellence by placing them in supportive, multicultural teams—Posses—of 10 students.
Chicago Scholars helps Chicago’s young and talented but under-resourced high school students by overcoming barriers to collegiate access and success. Chicago Scholars provides mentorship, college admissions support, and access to summer internships and career programming.

This day is sanctioned by the United Nations to encourage a better understanding of people affected by a disability. It promotes working together to make people more aware of the rights, dignity and welfare of disabled people.
April: Celebrate Diversity Month
Started in 2004 to recognize and honor the diversity surrounding us all. It’s a time to celebrate our differences and similarities to give people a deeper understanding of each other.
May 2: World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development
This day is set aside by the United Nations as an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to learn to live
