Cathy Anderson

Cathy Anderson

Senior Vice President Human Resources, General Counsel and Secretary

As True Value Company's general counsel, Cathy Anderson provides legal services to the co-op, manages legal matters and serves as secretary to the company. She is an accomplished attorney and executive, who has 27 years of experience in law, business strategy and management.

Before joining True Value Company in 2003, Anderson was executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for Alliant Foodservice, Inc. in Deerfield, Illinois. During her seven years with the $7 billion foodservice distribution company, she handled the legal aspects of mergers and acquisitions, labor relations, commercial matters, intellectual property and government contracts, among other significant issues.

At The Nutrasweet Company, Anderson served as deputy general counsel and assistant secretary from 1992 to 1995 and as director, commercial law services from 1986 to 1992. She also provided legal services on behalf of the international division of American Hospital Supply Corporation, a predecessor company of Baxter International, in Evanston, Illinois from 1976 to 1986.

Anderson holds a J.D. from Loyola University, Chicago and bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. A member of the American and Chicago Bar Associations, she currently serves on the board of directors for Evanston-Northwestern Healthcare and is affiliated with Georgetown University Corporate Counsel Institute.


Blake Fohl

Blake Fohl

Senior Vice President, Marketing and Chief Customer Officer

As Senior Vice President of Marketing and Chief Customer Officer, Blake Fohl provides marketing leadership to drive retailer growth. He leads brand strategy; segmentation; national, local and regional marketing; trade shows; and research and analytics. In addition, he is responsible for a wide range of programs and initiatives, including True Value's customer loyalty program, True Value Rewards, True Value's circular program and retail customer experience metrics.

Most recently, Fohl was Chief Marketing Officer for Hancock Fabrics, a specialty retailer of fashion and home decor textiles with 265 stores in 37 states.

Prior to that, Fohl served 16 years at Tractor Supply Company. Beginning as a buyer for three years, Blake spent the following 13 years in a variety of marketing management roles, including one year as director of marketing, 10 years as vice president of marketing, and two years as senior vice president of advertising and marketing; as well as president of Del's Feed and Farm Supply. During his tenure, Tractor Supply grew from $199 million with 149 stores, to $3.2 billion with more than 800 stores. He also managed three stores with Southern States, one of the nation's largest farmer-owned cooperatives.

Blake holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the Tennessee Technological University.

John Hartmann

John Hartmann

President and Chief Executive Officer

John Hartmann has more than 15 years of corporate experience at the senior executive level, including 11 years in the home improvement/hardware retail sector. Most recently, Hartmann served as Chief Executive Officer for Mitre 10, a New Zealand-based cooperative where he built and executed a strategic plan that increased members’ profitable sales over 25 percent in a four-year period.  

Prior to Mitre 10, Hartmann spent eight years at Home Depot and HD Supply, in a variety of roles including long-range planning, strategic business development, operations and sourcing, and finished his tenure as Chief Operating Officer for the electrical and plumbing divisions of then private equity owned HD Supply. 

For more than four years, Hartmann served as Vice President of Corporate Services for Fortune 25 Cardinal Health. Upon graduating from law school, Hartmann spent 10 years as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  

Hartmann holds a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law, and a bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. Hartmann also received a certificate in the Accelerated Leadership Program from Emory University, Goizueta Business School. 

Ken Goodgame

Ken Goodgame

Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer

With more than 20 years of retail and consumer packaged goods experience, Ken Goodgame joins True Value Company on Nov. 6, 2013 as senior vice president and chief merchandising officer. Goodgame brings diverse executive leadership from retail, consumer goods and hardware manufacturing. He is adept at merchandise planning, product assortments, gross margin management and private label strategies, with a focus on innovation and building high performance teams.

Most recently, Ken was general merchandising manager at Ace Hardware, where he developed retail growth strategies with enterprise-wide impact, and drove increases in wholesale and retail sales and gross margin. Ken has held other senior leadership positions including Techtronic Industries North America, a leading global manufacturer of power tools, Newell/Rubbermaid in the Irwin SHUR-LINE businesses, and the Bernzomatic and Cleaning divisions. Goodgame has also served as director of Proprietary Brands for The Home Depot; and was senior merchandising manager for Black & Decker.

Goodgame is known for being a product evangelist with a strong consumer focus, and has a consistent track record in driving results. He has a bachelor's in Marketing and Finance, from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Rosalee Hermens

Rosalee Hermens

Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer

As Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Rosalee Hermens is responsible for leading True Value Company's information technology team and managing the co-op's retail and enterprise systems. This includes all automated processes to support the wholesale business systems, including international distribution, order, inventory management, replenishment, merchandising and financial systems. She also supports member store retail systems and portal technologies for both vendors and retailers.

A seasoned technology executive, Hermens has led enterprise technology for both large and small companies. She has more than 20 years of experience delivering tangible business results through optimizing business process, information and information systems. With a strong track record for increasing revenue, reducing costs, and improving customer satisfaction, she has been recognized for her work at The Timberland Company, Aspen Technology, Compaq Computer, Digital Equipment Corporation, IBM and Bank of Boston. Hermens also has extensive international experience, having lived and worked in the United States, France and Taiwan.

Before joining True Value Company in May 2011, Hermens was the founder and principal of Hermens & Associates, a strategic IT management consulting firm that helped clients identify and pursue successful funding strategies, identify the need for and recruit new leadership, and create and implement new application portfolios, through organizational and business plan assessments, competitive analysis, and benchmarking.

In addition to her technology experience, Rosalee has financed middle-market and high-technology companies, led budget and strategic planning and managed numerous acquisition-integration processes.

A director of the Forsyth Institute, where she chairs the finance committee and a trustee of The Carroll Center for the Blind, Hermens is active professionally in the Boston Club and Society for Information Management.

Hermens holds a Masters of Science degree in Administrative Science from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon.

Lars Hybel

Lars Hybel

Vice President, International

With more than 25 years of international sales and management experience, Lars Hybel joins True Value on January 12, 2015 as vice president of international. Hybel has a wealth of experience leading multinational and global teams, having worked for more than 15 years at Electrolux. Since 1999, he has held a number of international leadership roles in small appliances and homecare products, including an assignment at the global head-office in Stockholm, Sweden. Most recently, he was vice president and general manager, global business unit, Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems, leading the transition of three regional operations to a global matrix organization, and successfully coordinating the first mass-channel entry in Canada, driving significant market share gain.

Prior to joining Electrolux, Hybel held various international positions for Newell Rubbermaid, Federal Signal Corp. and Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Company.

Hybel brings a great understanding of complex issues and team building, a high cultural understanding and multilingual capabilities with proven success in strategic business planning and effective execution of new product launches.


Eric Lane

Eric Lane

Vice President, Specialty Businesses

As vice president of specialty businesses, Eric Lane provides leadership over True Value Company's retail identities and niche businesses including Home & Garden Showplace, International, MRO - Maintenance, Repair and Operations, and the Rental Division including Grand Rental Station, Just Ask Rental and Taylor Rental.

Most recently, Lane served as True Value's business development director of retail growth where he was responsible for driving profitable retail sales growth including the opening of new stores, and the expansion and remodeling of existing ones. Eric also led the growth of branch stores with existing retailers, recruiting and identifying new retailers, and guiding True Value's real estate strategy.

Prior to that, Lane led True Value's two-year Enterprise Management System initiative, served for six years in eBusiness and retail systems, and spent 10 years in marketing and merchandising roles. He began his career at Servistar in merchandising, buying and field management.

Lane earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Juniata College.

Tim Mills

Tim Mills

Senior Vice President, Growth

Tim Mills joins True Value Company on Nov. 6, 2013 from leading distributor HD Supply, one of the largest diversified industrial distributors in North America. Mills has held executive roles in operations, sales, and mergers and acquisitions and most recently was vice president and general manager in their Power Solutions division.

His leadership experience includes serving as vice president of distribution operations, process excellence and customer service for Bankers Life and Casualty. Mills also held the role of vice president at Information Resources Inc., the leading market information firm that provides the analytics, business intelligence solutions, and subject matter expertise to the world's leading consumer packaged goods and retail companies. Mills also holds his Six Sigma Master Black Belt from GE Capital.

Mills earned a master's in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University's College of Business and his bachelor's in Business Administration and Management, from the United States Air Force Academy.

Jean Saelens

Vice President and Corporate Controller

As vice president and corporate controller, Jean Saelens is responsible for accounting and reporting, financial planning and analysis, tax and other transactional areas. She has been corporate controller since 2011, becoming a vice president in August 2014.

Saelens joined True Value in 2008 as the Logistics controller, a role she redefined from accounting function to business partner. During that time, she managed financial and accounting functions for the distribution centers and private transportation fleet and partnered with distribution and transportation management to analyze and review operational and strategic results.

A highly accomplished, results-driven financial executive, Saelens has spent 20-plus years in public and corporate accounting and consulting. Prior to joining True Value, she was director of Knowledge Management at the Johnsson Group. She also has served as vice president and controller at McDougal Littell-Houghton Mifflin Company, accounting manager at World Book International and senior auditor at Ernst & Young.

Saelens is a registered certified public accountant who holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from Saint Mary’s College and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She is a member of Financial Executives International.

Dave Shadduck

Dave Shadduck

Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Dave Shadduck is responsible for True Value Company's finance team. He joined the co-op in 2001 as the vice president of finance and corporate controller and was named chief financial officer later that same year. He is an accomplished financial leader with 20 years' experience.

Prior to joining True Value Company, Shadduck served as the North American Aflermarket controller for Tenneco Automotive, a Lake Forest, Ill.-based $3.3 billion manufacturer. From 1994-1998, he worked for Fel-Pro, Inc., an international market leader in the automotive aftermarket where he held several positions and was ultimately named controller of the original equipment division. He began his career in 1983 with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Chicago.

Shadduck holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Iowa and is a certified public accountant.

Abhinav Shukla

Abhinav Shukla

Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Abhinav Shukla joins True Value Company on Nov. 6, 2013 as senior vice president and chief operating officer, responsible for distribution and logistics, inventory, global sourcing and indirect procurement. Most recently, he was a consultant for the highly-regarded global consulting firm AlixPartners, where Shukla served numerous Fortune 500 companies in improving their financial and operational performance, particularly in global supply chain.

Shukla was co-founder of AlphaHarvest Capital and has several years of experience working in senior consulting roles for AlixPartners, Druker Capital and The Boston Consulting Group. He has broad management expertise in investment and growth strategies, financial and capital planning, trade spending, supply chain optimization, global sourcing and logistics. He has also served on the board of New Jersey Needs You, a non-profit that enables first-generation college students to realize their college and career ambitions.

He holds his master's in Management, Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.

Barbara Wagner

Barbara Wagner

Vice President and Corporate Treasurer

Barbara Wagner joined the company in 2001 as Vice President and Treasurer. Her responsibilities include the corporate finance areas of capital market finance, cash management and treasury operations, member/shareholder investments and risk management.

She has over 20 years of experience in corporate finance. Prior to joining True Value Company, Wagner held various positions at the Chicago-based companies Fruit of the Loom, Farley Industries, and Northwest Industries.

Wagner holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University and earned an MBA from DePaul University. She is a certified public accountant.
